Swallow Zovirax tablets whole with a drink of water. Do not crush or chew the tablets. For oral suspension, swallow the tablets whole with a glass full of water, about 500mg (1 tablet) per 5mL. * If Zovirax tablets are not absorbed after 30minutes, administer at least 30 minutes after administration. Swallow the tablets whole with a drink of water. * If the tablets are to be taken with meals, they must be taken with food. Avoid eating in between courses of tablets, as there may be a risk of side effects. The usual starting dose is 500mg (1 tablet). The maximum dose is 1 tablet in 2 days. * If you are taking medicines called nitrates (often prescribed for chest pain) tell your doctor. This may result in a dangerous drop in blood pressure. You need to take this medicine with a high-sodium environment. Nitrate-based medicines such as Zovirax are also known to be associated with a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Do not take Zovirax if you are dehydrated. Do not take Zovirax tablets if you are in the last 3 months of pregnancy. It can harm your unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if Zovirax tablets are excreted in breast milk. There have been some reports of lactating mothers who take Zovirax tablets during breastfeeding. If you breastfeed, talk with your doctor before taking Zovirax tablets.
